Breakfast Eggs Could Delay Hunger

Started the morning by eating eggs may be an option for those who want to keep feeling full longer. The protein in eggs is known to make a full stomach than the protein in wheat.

Large egg has about 70 calories and contains about 6 grams protein, 5 grams fat and 186 milligrams of cholesterol.

Diet with high quality protein can enhance satiety, leading to better compliance and diet weight loss success, "said researcher Nikhil Dhurandhar, PhD, a professor in the department of infection and obesity, Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, La.

In her study, Dhurandhar involving 20 people with overweight or obese. Then the participants were divided into two groups, one group was given a breakfast containing eggs and other cereals are given for one week. Although eggs and cereals contain different proteins, yet in terms of calories, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats are the same.

Unfortunately no mention of how the eggs are processed, how many, or whether there are other foods that also included breakfast.

On the first day and last week testing period, each participant was given lunch. Researchers also measured how hunger or fullness before and after breakfast and lunch, by recording how many calories are consumed at meals.

Researchers took blood samples to determine levels of ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates hunger, and PYY3-36, a hormone that signals satiety.

The researchers found that people who ate eggs in the morning to feel more full before lunch and they also eat less food than participants who ate the cereal.
Participants who consumed eggs also had lower ghrelin levels and a higher number of PYY3-36 for three hours between breakfast and lunch.

To find long-term effects of the habit of having breakfast with eggs to weight loss it needs to be studied further. But at least the eggs can be a healthy breakfast alternative for those who want a practical and healthy breakfast.
