Olive oil has long been famous for its heart health benefits. But not many people know how much is actually needed to achieve maximum health benefits.
Apparently, you do not need to consume olive oil in large quantities to meet the threshold. According to the latest findings, enough to consume two tablespoons of olive oil may cut nearly half the risk of dying from heart disease. While the consumption of one tablespoon of olive oil can cut the risk of heart disease nearly 28 percent.
There are numerous studies highlighting the benefits of olive oil for the heart, but few have examined how much the risk of mortality can be reduced.
In the study, researchers examined nearly 41,000 people eating adults involved in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition, which began 20 years ago.
Meanwhile, research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, say, olive oil may not help prevent the risk of death from cancer, but no major impact in reducing the risk of dying from heart disease.
"These findings are very significant. This tells us that the olive oil good for the heart," said Dr Charles Knight of the British Cardiovascular Society. "
Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fat and healthy polyphenols, compounds that can reduce inflammation in the body and may reduce the risk of blood clots.
In his latest research, scientists from Spain studied the data on the eating habits of 40 622 men and women aged between 29 and 69 years, who were followed for more than 13 years to see the effect of olive oil on the risk of death. Throughout the research, less than 2,000 participants died, including 956 416 of them from cancer and heart disease.
Analysis results showed that participants who died from heart disease to consume olive oil in small quantities. While those who took 29 grams or more per day (about two tablespoons) 44 percent less likely to die from heart problems.
