The impact of stroke will generally end in paralysis or disability. Therefore, stroke patients need to undergo the process of rehabilitation and therapy to restore function of the body as quickly as possible.

One type of new therapy is now recommended by experts Nintendo Wii game play. This game requires a person to continue to move on by using the motion sensor.

Dr Penelope McNulty, a neurophysiologist at the Neuroscience Research Australia, said the Nintendo Wii is an effective rehabilitation tool for stroke patients. The plan, he will present his findings at an international conference of the Society of Electrophysiology and Kinesiology in Brisbane on July 20, 2012.

According to McNulty, intensive exercise using the Wii for two weeks can result in significant improvement for stroke patients in the use of their limbs, even to people who have suffered a stroke for many years.

Each year, there are more than 60,000 stroke patients in Australia. Hence the need for a method of rehabilitation is important because it is the only method known to restore limb function of stroke.

"The game is cheap, easy to use and most importantly, fun. Type of rehabilitation is to motivate the participants to actually complete their therapy, which is very important to help the recovery process," said Dr. McNulty.

"All patients experienced improvement not only when using the Wii, but the activities they do every day, such as opening doors or using a fork," he explained
