Carbohydrates are a source of important nutrients in foods. Not only for adults but also children. Carbohydrate is the nutrient most needed for the growth of children, among them to the brain.

Carbohydrates act as the main energy provider for the various activities of the body, ensuring the protein can act as an agent builder, and provider of optimization of glucose for brain function. Therefore, carbohydrate needs should be met.

Make no mistake about the perception of carbohydrate. However, carbohydrates provide the energy needed for physical activity and body organs to function properly, but also part of a healthy lifestyle.

In the digestive system, carbohydrates are converted into glucose and processed into energy. Carbohydrates increase blood glucose after 0.5 to 1 hour consumed which will then be distributed throughout the body, including the brain are the main objectives.

After eating carbohydrates, your body feels refreshed and then be able to think properly again. Naturally, given the glucose to be one of the nutrients for the brain.

Unlike other organs, the brain can not use the energy from fat. The brain can only use the energy sources of diet and glycogen.

"The brain can only use glucose as an energy source. On the other hand, the brain has few reserves of energy. For that glucose availability is maintained constantly," said Prof.Made Astawan, food scientists from IPB.

Glucose can be obtained from natural materials such as in sugar cane (containing sucrose). Sucrose in the body will be broken down into glucose and fructose. In addition, there is also a compound similar isomatulosa sucrose. Only do keep in mind that some carbohydrates are better than others.
