Chest pain that appears not only lead to pain but also the perceived discomfort. Even so there are some conditions that can cause chest pain, what is?
The pain may begin appearing on the chest and then may spread to other areas such as neck, jaw and arm. Although most people only experience it in front of the chest alone.
As we all know there are many possible causes of chest pain, usually associated with different organs contained within the chest.
The following causes of chest pain, as quoted from Health24, Friday (08/10/2012), namely:
1. Cardiovascular problems
- Ischemic heart disease is the most common and require emergency attention. This condition is caused by a narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries so that squeeze the heart muscle to meet the oxygen intake.
- Aortic dissection can be life-threatening. Interference occurs between the layers of the aorta that is usually caused by uncontrolled high blood pressure. This condition often come suddenly or due to trauma such as car accidents that cause damage to the aorta.
- Myocarditis (inflammation of heart muscle) and pericarditis (inflammation of the protective membrane around the heart)
- Mitral valve prolapse can also cause chest pain.
2. Problems on the chest wall
- Inflammation of the joints, cartilage, fibrous tissue or ribs like costochondritis
- Herpes zoster
- Broken ribs or sternum, other forms of trauma
- Problems in the dislocation of the spine and the back of the neck
- Problems such as pinched nerves, inflamed or degenerative nerve in the chest wall, shoulder or neck
- Problems with the diaphragm
3. Problems in the lungs
- Pulmonary embolism caused by the presence of large blood clots or air bubbles trapped in the lungs and can be life-threatening
- Tension pneumothorax is air leakage into the chest cavity
- Pneumonia or acute peritonitis
4. Problems in the gastro-intestinal
- Disorders of the esophagus such as seizures, inflammation or reflux
- Gallstones, colic or inflammation of the gallbladder
- Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
- Digestive disorders that can trigger chest pain
5. Psychiatric problems
- Mood disorders such as chronic stress or depression
- Anxiety disorders such as hyperventilation, panic attacks or anxiety attacks
- Have a delusional state.
